Roundtable for a Sustainable Cocoa Economy

The Roundtable for a Sustainable Cocoa Economy was launched in 2007 by the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO). The mission of the Roundtable is to establish a participatory and transparent process towards economic, environmental and social sustainability in the global cocoa economy.

Both Roundtables, the first one in 2007 and the second one in 2009, brought together more than 500 stakeholders representing governments, industry, farmer organizations, labor unions and NGOs. The RSCE has received funding from governments of cocoa producing and consuming countries. The third Roundtable is scheduled to take place at the end of 2010 in the Netherlands.

The objectives of the Roundtable are “to build a consensus on defining a concept or model of criteria, indicators and ways to achieve a sustainable world cocoa economy through a participatory and comprehensive approach.”
