The World Cocoa Foundation started in 2002 as an industry-driven initiative to promote a sustainable cocoa economy through economic and social development and environmental conservation in cocoa growing communities.

The WCF is a partnership of nearly 70 chocolate company members, governments, international agencies, trade associations and NGOs and is funded by industry and private foundations.

The WCF supports programmes to make cocoa farming a sustainable, successful way of life for farming families, for example through the Farmer Field School Program and the Sustainable Tree Crops Program and is part of the cocoa project of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
