Cadbury to sell mainstream Fairtrade chocolate

March 5, 2009 - Yesterday confectionary maker Cadbury and the Fairtrade Foundation announced their plans to source the cocoa for Cadbury’s mainstream chocolate brand, Dairy Milk, under Fairtrade terms. This certified chocolate bar is expected to be available in the British and Irish shops by August 2009.

WCF introduces Cocoa Livelihoods Program

February 19, 2009 - The World Cocoa Foundation has formed a partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to increase the livelihoods of approximately 200,000 West African cocoa farming households in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia and Nigeria.

Nigerian cocoa processors ask for urgent grants on higher costs

February 16, 2009 - cocoa processors are in urgent need of government grants to help the industry weather rising energy and transportation costs, said Abimbola Oladapo, president of the Cocoa Processors Association of Nigeria. “If the government makes the grants available to us, the question of closing down factories does not arise", he said.

Ivorian cocoa farmers to stop crop reaching ports

February 10, 2009 - Cocoa farmers in Ivory Coast, the world’s largest producer of the chocolate ingredient, will start preventing trucks from carrying the crops to ports today because they want funding and fertilizer from the government and the dismissal of the leadership of a state management committee.
