Royal Verkade Chocolate 100 percent Fair Trade

September 27, 2008 - From October onwards Royal Verkade, a Dutch subsdidiary of United Biscuits, will be using 100 percent Fair Trade cocoa and sugar in its products.

The Dutch household name, established in 1886 and one of the most respected brands in the country, is the first A-list chocolate producer worldwide to make the transition to Fair Trade production on a large scale. With this move, the entire production of Fair Trade cocoa worldwide will be boosted by an additional 1,500 metric tons, which is an increase of 20 percent. The entire range of Verkade cocoa products will be sourced fairly by early 2009, like the very popular Santa Claus lettersigns, an old Dutch tradition.
