Dutch stations serve Good Origin

March 31, 2008 - Servex, the organization that runs the Kiosk and Wizzl shops at the train stations in The netherlands, announced to serve 100% sustainable coffee to all passengers.

The coffee is sold at all 110 railway stations with a Kiosk or Wizzl in the Netherlands. Servex serves the coffee in cooperation with Douwe Egberts Coffee Systems and this coffee is UTZ CERTIFIED. The label assures that the coffee is grown responsibly. On the long run, Servex would like to offer 100% sustainable warm drinks in its shops. The Kiosk- and Wizzl shops approximately sell 11 million cups of coffee and tea annually.

With the switch to sustainable coffee Servex reacts to the request of consumers for healthy and sustainable products that fit their responsible lifestyle.
UTZ CERTIFIED is a label for sustainable quality. The coffee is grown by producers that use good agricultural practices to deliver quality coffee to Douwe Egberts. At the same time the farmers and cooperatives take care of the people and the environment, for example by training the workers, use of natural fertilizers and access to schools and drinking water. The farmers are audited yearly by independent third parties. "Servex serving Douwe Egberts UTZ CERTIFIED coffee on the train stations is a step forward towards making the coffee sector more sustainable" says Fred Vijvers, general director of Douwe Egberts Coffee Systems. "Among all the big coffee roasters in the world, Douwe Egberts is the biggest buyer of sustainable coffee: 20 million kilos in 2008. We take our leadership role in increasing sustainability within the coffee sector." "Due to our partnership with Douwe Egberts switching to sustainable coffee is a logical step. This is in line with our CSR-policy" says Jan Kooiker, director of Servex.
